Nike has terminated its contract with Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood following claims of domestic abuse against the 20-year-old England international.

“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” said Nike in a statement.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust posted on Twitter: “The club has now confirmed that Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice. MUST fully support the decision of the club in this regard.”

The Manchester United striker has been detained by authorities in connection with the alleged distribution on social media of photographs and videos made available on Instagram – which have since been removed – as well as an accusation of domestic abuse against a lady.

His team has said that he would “not resume training or match participation until further notice.” Furthermore, the club appears to have taken down all Greenwood goods from its official website.

Additionally, police were allowed additional time to interview the 20-year-old on Monday following his arrest on accusations of rape and assault. The force stated in a statement that “inquiries are underway.”
