Napoli to allow Luciano Spalletti to leave for free

Napoli are ready to release manager Luciano Spalletti without seeking a compensation from the Partenopei boss.

Il Mattino today have reported that Napoli will not ask Spalletti to comply with his contract that expires in the summer of 2024 and as a result, there will be no compensation fee involved in the Italian’s exit. Instead, the Partenopei will insert a clause in his deal which will allow Spalletti to return to the club before his deal expires in the summer of 2024.

Spalletti is keen on making sure that he takes a sabbatical on leaving Napoli and he will not join another club next season.

Aurelio de Laurentiis will anyway ask Spalletti to atleast manage the side during their pre-season friendlies in South Korea, as the club chief wants to have a peaceful exit with the manager. He also wants to make sure that Spalletti leaves in a happy manner, without carrying any grudges against De Laurentiis.

The club chief is now thinking about whether to go beyond the club’s wage cap or not, when it comes to hiring a new manager. Because the finances from Champions League progress and the Scudetto win have helped the club’s financial situation and it could help them hire a manager who wants to earn more than Napoli’s wage cap.

Some options include Vincenzo Italiano, Thiago Motta and Sérgio Conceição. Other options include Gian Piero Gasperini and Luis Enrique.
