Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has expressed his liking for midfielder Tanguy Ndombele and he believes that the Frenchman could have been useful for Tottenham.
Ndombele joined Napoli on loan from Spurs in the summer and while he hasn’t been a regular in midfield for the Partenopei, he has been a vital squad player for Spalletti’s side. He had fallen out of favour under multiple managers at Spurs and that includes Antonio Conte, even though he joined the club for a club record fee from Lyon.
Ahead of Napoli’s upcoming clash against Torino, Spalletti spoke to the press about Ndombele and he praised the midfielder and stating his belief that he could have been useful for the Lilywhites.
He stated: “Ndombele is a strong player, at the beginning I didn’t know him much, there was a doubt as to why Tottenham had let him leave. From what I saw, watching the Milan-Tottenham match, I would have kept him in the side.
“He’s someone I train willingly, he’s also a very sweet boy, physically strong. In the modernity of football, there is this physical strength which is important. He has strength, engine, technique, flashes in which he sees where the hole is. I like him – as they say in Tuscany”.
Ndombele has made 24 Serie A appearances but he is yet to score for the club. He has seven Champions League appearances and he has one goal and an assist to his name. Napoli do have the option to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis in the summer.
