Mourinho wants new history for Roma after beating Leicester in Europa Conference League

Roma booked their place in the Europa Conference League final with a 1-0 win over Leicester City at Stadio Olimpico on Thursday night.

Tammy Abraham was the hero for Roma as his powerful header after 11 minutes made the difference against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The first leg finished 1-1 and it was Roma who looked the most dangerous in front of their home crowd.

They will face Feyenoord in the inaugural final in Tirana on May 25th.

Speaking after the game, Roma boss Jose Mourinho said the competition meant the same as the Champions League to his club.

He told reporters: “When you work in Rome, live in Rome and breathe Rome, you breathe this club because it is the real club of the city. I felt from day one it is huge. But no victories and not many finals. The history is not related to the social dimension of the club.

“We managed to build an OK team that grew step by step so we could beat a Premier League team.

“I am very emotional. Of course I have had bigger moments than this but I am not feeling for myself, I am feeling for the people and my players. This for us, is our Champions League.”
