Despite interest from elsewhere, notably from the Premier League, Youssouf Fofana (24) ultimately remained at AS Monaco. The France international has now spoken about his decision to remain with the Principality club.
As reported by RMC Sport in August, Nottingham Forest made an attempt to sign Fofana. Les Monégasques were even prepared to accept an offer from the Premier League side, however, the player reportedly wasn’t interested in the move. Sports Zone were also linked with a move late in the transfer window, however, once again Fofana reportedly didn’t respond to the interest.
Fofana therefore remains at the Principality club and has started the season in good form, once again as a crucial element in Les Monégasques’ midfield. In a press conference, attended by Get French Football News, Fofana opened up on remaining with Monaco this summer. “Sincerely, I was between staying and leaving. I’ve always said I have no problem with staying, especially at a club like Monaco, who are always competing at the top. I have personal expectations and objectives. Maybe a departure wasn’t the best thing for me. I am very, very happy to have stayed and to have this status in this team,” he said.
