Milan veteran Simon Kjaer has joined the Italian Football Hall of Fame for helping in saving the life of Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen, now at Brentford in the Premier League, collapsed due to a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s opening game in the Euros and Kjaer’s efforts helped in saving the midfielder’s life. The defender was also inducted into the Ballon D’or for his actions.

FIGC have now inducted the defender into Italian Football’s Hall of Fame, an award that is dedicated to the late Fiorentina man Davide Astori.

Kjaer talked to FIGC about the accolade and said: “I remember Davide very well and of course I also remember his tragic demise well. Both Pioli and my teammates have talked to me about him, I know that his death was shocking for all of Italy and for the whole world of football. It is a tragedy that still makes you sad, and that will do so forever. Receiving the award dedicated to Davide means a lot, it makes me happy and proud. For me it is an opportunity to honor his name.”

Kjaer had sustained a serious knee injury whiich has kept him out of action this season so far but the ex-Sevilla man is back in training.
