Mike Maignan set to make Milan comeback against Atalanta

Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan is set to make his return on Sunday night when the Rossoneri will face Atalanta, coach Stefano Pioli has confirmed it during today’s press conference.

“Mike is fine and tomorrow he will play. He felt like a lion in a cage but he has worked well and he feels mentally and phisically ready to play”, Pioli said.

Maignan played his last game with Milan on September 19th against Napoli and overall, he played only nine matches across all competitions this season.

He has been ruled out since then because of two calf injuries, the first was picked up while he was playing for France and the second was picked up while recovering from the previous one.

He was supposed to be back after the World Cup but, as exams in December showed that he wasn’t 100% healed. Milan decided to play it safe and left him on the sidelines until the recovery was complete.

He started training with the group only this week but what he has showed during those sessions has been enough to convince Stefano Pioli to play him over Ciprian Tatarusanu.

As of right now, Maignan is out from Milan Champions League roster but UEFA’s regulations allow a team to make changes until 24 hours before a game. Therefore, Maignan will be included in the list and he’ll be available for last 16’s second leg against Tottenham which is scheduled for March 8th.
