Messi, De Bruyne, Muller: Who has the most assists since 2020?

Thomas Muller is one of the most underrated players of his generation.

The Bayern Munich forward has been a consistent world-class performer for well over a decade now and is still going strong at the ripe old age of 32.

So far in 2021/22, the veteran playmaker has scored five goals and notched eight assists in his 15 appearances across all competitions.

When it comes to setting up goals for teammates over the past few years or so, few players operating at the very highest level of the sport can match the Germany international.

In fact, no footballer in Europe’s top five leagues comes close to Muller in the assist column since the start of 2020.

Transfermarkt have calculated the 10 players with the most assists for club and country in that timeframe, with the German leading the way by a considerable margin.

Take a look at the list in full below…

Champions League 2021/22: Fixtures, Draw, Results, Odds, Scores And Everything You Need To Know

Muller is 10 assists clear of his nearest competitor, De Bruyne, a quite incredible feat by a player who will certainly go down as one of the all-time greats when he officially hangs up his boots.

Alba is the only out-and-out defender on the list, which proves that the Spaniard is still one of the finest attack-minded full-backs out there.

Despite his dreadful start to life at United, Sancho still makes the top 10 and that just highlights how outrageous the Englishman’s creative form at Dortmund was.

As for Messi, well, it’ll be incredibly weird when there’s a day where the Argentine doesn’t rank among the top assisters in world football, won’t it?
