Malang Sarr’s Monaco future to be decided at the end of the season

AS Monaco manager Philippe Clement has said that the future of Chelsea loanee Malang Sarr (24) will be decided at the end of the season.

Sarr joined Monaco on a season-long loan last summer but has endured a difficult spell at the club. The French centre-back won’t play again this season after he underwent surgery. Prior to that, he hadn’t featured since mid-March after sustaining an injury, the nature of which has remained vague.

Clement revealed that the player was now back in London. It is unclear whether he will add to his 17 appearances in the red and white of Monaco. It is clear that he won’t feature in the two remaining games this season, but the deal to bring him to the Principality club included an option to make the deal permanent for €12m.

Questioned by Get French Football News’ Luke EntwistleClement wouldn’t be drawn on whether Sarr will be at Monaco next season. “These are things that we have to decide at the end of the season. We have to concentrate on the players that are here. These past months, we haven’t had the chance to use Malang, which isn’t something that we wanted, but these are things that we must decide after the season,” said Clement in Thursday’s press conference.
