L’Équipe report that Marseille have decided not to make a final appeal on the sanctions that followed their suspended match against Lyon, notably regarding the match being replayed.
The match, in late November, had been stopped after five minutes after OM midfielder Dimitri Payet was struck by a bottle thrown from the stands. Lyon were also docked a point and made to play several games behind closed doors.
Marseille had made an initial appeal with the FFF, which was rejected. As the club took their time to decide whether or not to make the final appeal, the match could be rescheduled to this Wednesday.
As a result, the game is expected to be played on January 26 or February 2, in the middle of the next international break. As all confederations but UEFA will hold matches then, this means that the teams will be without several players. For Lyon, this notably involves the absences of key men Lucas Paquetá and Bruno Guimarães.
Lyon are reportedly against playing on those dates, while the league authorities themselves have also harboured doubts on Marseille’s attitude with regarding to delaying their decision – as a result, it may even be played at a later date.
