Luke Shaw opens up on Man United unhappiness

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has hinted at unhappiness at the club, saying he “always feels wanted” while with the national team.

The left-back spoke on Saturday evening after his goal-scoring outing with the Three Lions as they came from a goal down to beat Switzerland 2-1.

Having gone down 1-0 thanks to Breel Embolo’s first-half strike, Shaw pulled his nation level with a well-taken strike from the edge of the box before Harry Kane won it late on with a goal from the spot.

Speaking after the match, Shaw was full of praise for his manager, Gareth Southgate, further suggesting it’s different with his club.

“The environment here that Gareth creates, you always enjoy it,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think when I come here it is about enjoyment and playing games with a smile on my face. Here, when I come here, I always do that.

“We all love playing for our country and when we are here we all just focus on what is happening here. Obviously, my main focus is England at this time.

“I am not saying I don’t at United but especially here, the way things are, I feel wanted and I enjoy my football. A big part of football is the enjoyment.

“Of course, it is hard to enjoy when we are losing and not playing well at club level. We have to face that and, of course, this season it has not been good enough so it is hard to enjoy.

“We have a lot to improve at the club but I am here with England so the focus is on that.”

Shaw becomes the latest player to suggest they are not happy with the current environment under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
