In the aftermath of Paris Saint-Germain’s 3-2 defeat to Nice on Friday, Luis Enrique spoke to the media about his team’s performance and their reliance on Kylian Mbappé.
The defeat at the Parc des Princes was Les Parisiens’ first of the season and the former Barcelona coach put the performance down to a great showing from Nice more than a poor performance from his team. When asked what went wrong, he said “We knew that the match would be complicated, particularly because of the level and ideas of Nice’s game. They were cooler than us. Some things, however, went well, our control in defence. It was less fluid. I want to congratulate Nice and its players for their performance and the quality of their football.”
With the absence of Marquinhos, PSG’s defence looked rather open and suspect at times with Farioli’s men and Terem Moffi in particular getting lots of joy on the counter attack. When asked about the number of chances his side conceded the Spaniard commented on his side’s mentality: “It’s football, the Niçois had more chances, more transitions, were more effective, their victory is expected. But I am happier than during the victory against Lyon because the players fought until the end despite the difficulties of the match. A defeat obviously hurts. We all have to progress, me too. But I liked the state of mind displayed by the players during the difficulty.”
Kylian Mbappé was on the scoresheet again against Nice, but his two goals were not enough to secure a result. He has scored 7 of Les Parisiens’ 10 goals this season. Luis Enrique was asked if he was worried about his side’s reliance on the France captain, but was very dismissive: “No no not at all. I have a team in which I really like the attacking line. Mbappé will always score, it’s in his DNA. And the others will score too”.
