Ligue 1 Results: Round 37
Paris Saint-Germain wrapped up back-to-back Ligue 1 titles against Racing Club de Strasbourg Alsace, AS Monaco dropped out of the European places, and FC Nantes are on the brink of relegation after a highly consequential gameweek of French football.
Strasbourg 1-1 PSG
PSG wrapped up their title despite an underwhelming draw in Strasbourg. It was Lionel Messi who got the all-important goal, which sealed the championship, despite Kevin Gameiro’s equaliser.
Lyon 3-0 Reims
There remains a mathematical, although highly-improbable chance that Lyon will feature in European competition next season. Alexandre Lacazette scored his 27th goal of the season, and is just one goal behind Kylian Mbappé heading into the final gameweek.
Montpellier 2-3 Nice
Neither side had anything to play, but Nice nonetheless mounted an impressive comeback in the second half, overturning a two-goal deficit to secure the victory. Ross Barkley scored Les Aiglons’ first before a Gaëtan Laborde double.
Rennes 2-0 Monaco
Rennes have leapfrogged Monaco thanks to a comfortable 2-0 victory. Lovro Majer and Amine Gouiri scored for Bruno Génésio’s side. Monaco are now outside the European places and don’t have destiny in their own hands heading into the final game of the season.
Toulouse 1-1 Auxerre
Auxerre kept their chances of remaining in Ligue 1 very much alive against Auxerre. Heading into the final gameweek, they are two points ahead of Nantes thanks to Saturday’s draw.
Marseille 1-2 Brest
This wasn’t the way Les Phocéens wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their Champions League victory. The surprise defeat ends their chances of chasing Lens. They must now settle for the Champions League play-offs.
Lens 3-0 Ajaccio
Three first-half goals were enough to wrap up second place for Lens in Ligue 1. Loïs Openda scored his 20th goal of the league season before Lens celebrated their achievement, which sees Le Sang et Or advance straight to the Champions League group stages.
Angers 2-1 Troyes
Angers got a 90th-minute winner in a match between two sides, whose fate is already sealed. Next season, these sides will be playing against each other in Ligue 2.
Lille 2-1 Nantes
This game had ramifications at both ends of the table. Nantes took the lead before two second-half penalties from Jonathan David gave Lille the win. Les Dogues are now in fourth and on the brink of European football for next season.
Clermont 2-0 Lorient
Clermont will finish in the top half of Ligue 1 for the first time in the club’s history. Pascal Gastien’s side have won eight of their last 10 games.
