As reported by Foot Mercato, PSG sporting director Leonardo is becoming increasingly unpopular at PSG and, thanks to recent blunders, his position is far from secure.
For PSG’s Qatari owners, Leonardo’s continued presence at the Parc des Princes is no longer agreed upon and discussions with other sporting directors have taken place in recent months, most notably Fabio Paratici of Tottenham.
Frustration has arisen following Leonardo’s inability to, once again, move players out of the club this January transfer window with even young midfielder Eric Junior Dina Ebimbe’s move to Bayer Leverkusen breaking down at the end of the window.
Strained relations with Mauricio Pochettino, as they were with Thomas Tuchel, also reflect badly on Leonardo with Pochettino frustrated on the club’s inability to secure the coach’s main target, Tanguy Ndombele, last month before he was lost to Lyon.
Leonardo’s dithering over Kylian Mbappé’s future could be the biggest mistake of all after time was wasted in a vague attempt to sell the player while a fee was still possible. Relations with the Mbappé clan have become frosty, forcing president Nasser Al-Khelaifi to take over talks with the player on a, now unlikely, new deal.
With Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as coach a priority for the club given that Pochettino is expected to leave this summer, Leonardo’s position may soon become unworkable too with Zidane reportedly unimpressed with the way the club has been run of late and instead being keen to work with Arsène Wenger.
