The lawyer of PSG star Kylian Mbappe has weighed into his sponsorship row with the French Football Federation.
Mbappe, a target for Real Madrid, is refusing to take part in sponsorship promotions for the France national team.
Delphine Verheyden told L’Equipe: “When a player is selected for the French team for the first time, one of the first things he does is sign a document that is given to him and that governs his rights and obligations in the French team. This document becomes effective at the time of his signature and expires five years after the end of his professional career.
“That is the first thing that costs us. So for Kylian, he should go from his 18th birthday to his 40th birthday roughly. It is not realistic to assume such a long commitment.
“In the official shirts, who has the right? The FFF, the team supplier (Nike) and the player. If we put the player’s name on the jersey, he should receive some compensation. Next, each of them must decide if he wants to keep the money or donate it to amateur football. This is where Kylian wants to weigh in on what he generates.
“The agreement signed with the Federation now requires that the players answer any question from any media outlet. But aside from talking about a match that just ended, players should be able to choose when and where they want to talk. We just have to reconnect this convention with today’s world.”
