Lars Stindl to stop contract talks with Borussia Mönchengladbach

Bild reports that Lars Stindl intends to stop any negotiations over a contract extension with Borussia Mönchengladbach, opening the door for him to leave in the summer.

The 34-year-old is reportedly set to join Karlsruhe in the 2.Bundesliga. Stindl is from Speyer outside of Karlsruhe and he is a product of the team’s academy.

Earlier on in the season, Karlsruhe were flirting with relegation and if they ended up getting relegated they would rule out a move for Stindl but after an upturn in form they are safe from the drop. The 34-year-old left Karlsruhe in 2010 on a free transfer joining Hannover 96.

The departure of Stindl highlights the change that Gladbach will be going through in the summer. Manager Daniel Farke is said to want a louder leader on the pitch with Stindl being seen as a quieter leader.

Stindl joined Gladbach in 2015 from Hannover for €3 million and has gone on to make himself the club captain. His departure will bring to an end his eight-year spell at the club, but this season he has moved between the starting 11 and the bench. The 34-year-old has played 22 times this season for Gladbach scoring six and assisting nine times.
