Having scored the only goal of the Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid tonight, Kylian Mbappé spoke to RMC Sport.
In his post-match interview he said “I’m happy. Above all else it was a good game from the team. We’re satisfied but it’s only the first leg. We’re taking a slight advantage for the away fixture.”
Asked about the defensive approach of Real Madrid, particularly in light of the lack of value of away goals this season, Mbappé said “No, a team like Real Madrid never hide from a fight. They had a strategy, it didn’t work for this leg but I think they’ll play differently next time. They’ll have more choice, they’ll be in front of their home crowd, it’ll be a different context.”
Inevitably the striker was also asked whether the match had influenced his thoughts on his future. He responded “I wanted to concentrate on football as I said to your colleagues. There are a lot of things being said, everyone knows everything and people talk for the sake of it. But I’m really just focussed on helping my team – I said it a couple of weeks ago in an interview – and I showed it today. But I’ll have to show it again on the 9th of March. I’m really focussed and happy to be at Paris Saint-Germain.”
