In an interview with L’Équipe, Le Havre attacker André Ayew (34) has spoken about his time in the Premier League with Swansea City and why he decided to make the move to the Welsh club.
After leaving Marseille on a free transfer, the former Ghanaian international made the surprise switch to Premier League club Swansea City in 2015. Ayew made an instant impact in the Premier League with the Swans, earning the Premier League Player of the Month accolade in his first month as a Swansea player.
Ayew then later swapped Swansea with a move to West Ham. The Hammers were also linked with a move for the 34-year-old before he agreed to join the now EFL Championship club.
Speaking about the surprise decision to join Swansea back in 2015, Ayew said, “No not at all. In France, we don’t know Swansea. Some interested teams were more renowned but did not develop the same football. I had a very important role, the financial aspect was also there, and I found myself in all areas. For me, it was the best choice. And as soon as I arrived, I was voted best player of the month in the Premier League.”
8 years on from his move to Swansea, André Ayew has returned to Ligue 1. The former Marseille forward confirmed his return to the French top flight when Le Havre signed him on a free transfer from Nottingham Forest in November of 2023.
