Inter struggling for Alessandro Bastoni’s contract renewal

Inter are currently struggling to make sure that Alessandro Bastoni signs a new long-term deal at the club and there is a risk of him following the same path as Milan Škriniar.

Bastoni’s Inter teammate Škriniar is already set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in the summer after the Nerazzurri failed to tie him down to a new deal. La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported about the possibility of something similar happening in Bastoni’s case as well.

Bastoni’s current deal expires in the summer of 2024 and it is stated that Inter have two months to make sure that he signs a new deal, or they would be at the concrete risk of losing him for free. The distance between what Inter are offering and what the defender wants is quite large, as things stand.

Inter and Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti have already spoken in December but they never spoke about the numbers. The meeting was done to express the interest about a renewal. That is because Inter want to make sure that Bastoni’s new contract applies only for the 2023/24 season, so they are simply not handing him the deal right away. But the defender did not like this move from the club.

When a meeting was held about the numbers, there was a prominent distance. Bastoni currently earns €3.2 million per season including bonuses but to sign a new deal, he would like to make sure that they double his wage and he earns €5.5 million per season. That is a lesser demand than what was offered to Lautaro Martinez and Marcelo Brozović and close to what was offered to Škriniar back in January.

A new meeting is expected to take place soon and the situation is turning into a sensitive one, because European clubs are keeping tabs on the Italian.
