The likelihood of Lucas Torreira staying at Fiorentina beyond the summer transfer window has continued to drop as La Viola have started looking at alternatives.
Today’s edition of La Nazione sheds light on Fiorentina’s interest in finding a suitable replacement for Lucas Torreira, who is ready to return to Arsenal following his season-long loan spell in Florence.
According to the report, Vincenzo Italiano has identified Stefano Sensi as their preferred target to replace the departing Uruguayan. If they fail to land the 26-year-old Inter midfielder, they have also shortlisted Roberto Gagliardini as an alternative to Sensi.
It is believed that Sensi possesses traits akin to those of Torreira and could be a perfect option in the midfield for La Viola from the next season onwards. But Sensi, who had a decent loan spell at Sampdoria last season, wants to stay at Nerazzurri and fights for his place in Simone Inzaghi’s highly-competitive setup.
At Inter, Sensi has a contract until June 2024, meaning Fiorentina might have to pay a significant figure to prise him out of Milan. And it is not as if they are the only suitor for Sensi, with Sassuolo also showing interest in making a summer swoop for their former midfield option.
