Failed Manchester United transfer laid foundation of Dybala’s Juventus exit

Paulo Dybala’s failed move to Manchester United in 2019 had laid down the foundation of La Joya’s exit, which is now set to take place in the summer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have reported recently that to identify a day when the winds around Dybala changed for the first time, we need to go back to that afternoon in early August 2019, when Dybala was one step away from joining Manchester United. Juventus had said yes and couldn’t wait to sell him.

Dybala was to join United in a swap deal with Romelu Lukaku heading to Juventus. But Dybala could not accept the idea of farewell, so much so that he burst into tears while recording a video of greetings for the Juventus fans.

In the end, Paulo blew everything up and perhaps Juventus never forgave him for it. The truth is that for some time Andrea Agnelli’s club hasn’t considered Dybala a player to build a team around.

From that day, he has no longer been considered a non-transferable. Indeed, Juve would have gladly given him away to make a capital gain. In December, everything seemed to be done in terms of his renewal. With the return of Massimiliano Allegri and the farewell of Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo was back at the center of the project and had a vice captain’s role.

Juve and Dybala’s agent Jorge Antun had agreed terms on a deal worth €8 million plus €2 bonus, only the signature was missing. Then came Vlahovic and in two months, everything changed.

Dybala did not like the rumors in the newspapers related to Juventus’ desire to change the offer after the handshake and he liked even less the digs of the club’s CEO. This showed Dybala that Juve had changed their minds.

In addition to doubts about La Joya’s physical conditions, Juventus, for its part never considered Jorge Antun, who is not a professional agent and has Paulo as his only client (he is a family friend). They would have liked a change of agent.

In addition, Dybala’s lack of celebration after the goal against Udinese with a grim look towards the stands (and the famous phrase “I was looking for a friend and I could not find him”) was not liked by the higher-ups of the club and perhaps that was the definitive breaking point.
