Former Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has dismissed talk of a move for Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah.
The Liverpool Echo says negotiations are ongoing between the forward’s representatives and the Reds, with Salah in the final two years of his current deal that was signed in 2018.
Liverpool are keen to reward Salah for his continued outstanding contribution since arriving from Roma for £43.9million in the summer of 2017.
Gaspart told Egyptian TV: “Mohamed Salah is a great player and I like that he is developing himself quickly, but I do not think that Mohamed Salah will join Barcelona one day.
”Xavi loves Barcelona and is a legend as a player, and he is currently making a great effort to restore Barcelona to its position again.
”I do not like to interfere in the technical matters of any technical director in general, so I cannot choose any player to contract with, as the coach is responsible for selecting the players.”
