Didier Digard will not carry on as Nice manager

After half a season in charge, Didier Digard will not remain as Nice head coach going into the summer, according to a report from local outlet Nice-Matin today. He was informed of the club’s decision by Sporting Director Florent Ghisolfi on Sunday morning.

The former midfielder took over from Lucien Tavre in January, and went unbeaten in his first 8 games in charge – an instant impression that had secured him the job until the end of the season. Nice are fourth in the table, when only counting matches since his arrival, and Digard is now set to begin studying for his coaching badges next year, which would have meant the end of the weekly fine for the club due to his lack of a diploma.

However, a downturn in form in the spring, which also saw the club agonisingly miss out on a spot in the Conference League semi-finals after a dramatic defeat to Basel, scuppered the team’s chances of returning to the European stage next season. With Saturday night’s 3-1 win over Lyon, Nice have ended the Ligue 1 campaign in ninth place.

Les Aiglons have reportedly already drawn up a shortlist of potential successors, which includes the likes of Lille coach Paulo Fonseca, former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter, and Roberto De Zerbi.
