As reported by L’Équipe, David Bettoni, the former assistant coach to Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, has been contacted by Bordeaux in their search for a new manager.
Vladimir Petkovic was removed from his position as head coach after the 5-0 loss to Reims at the weekend which contributed to the worst defensive record in Ligue 1.
Bettoni spoke with FCGB sporting director Admar Lopes on Monday in a lengthy conversation over the phone and discussed the idea of meeting face-to-face shortly depending on the board’s decisions over their search generally.
Interested by his knowledge and his experience with one of the biggest clubs in the world, Bordeaux are still concerned about the fact that Bettoni has never held a lead coaching position aside from taking over from Zidane during a handful of games on an interim basis.
Bettoni was considered the tactical spearhead within Zidane’s staff while also being in charge of preparing and leading training. Last summer, the Frenchman decided to take the plunge as a head coach, after discussing it at length with Zidane who assured him he was ready.
RMC reported that Rudi Garcia and Joao Sacramento are now out of the running for the Bordeaux job with former Reims coach David Guion the main target. Sabri Lamouchi is also being considered.
