Daniel Alves delighted making Barcelona history with goal in victory over Atletico Madrid

Daniel Alves made history with Barcelona after scoring in Sunday’s 4-2 win against Atletico Madrid.

The Barcelona right-back, with his goal against Atlético at the Camp Nou, has become the oldest footballer in the club’s history to score. The Brazilian scored his goal at the age of 38 years and 276 days and thus surpassed Joan Segarra, who scored against Real Betis in the 1963-64 season at the age of 36 years and 162 days.

Alves was later sent off, but remained upbeat after the crucial win.

He said, “I knew it, yes. I think I’m at my best emotionally and footballingly too. I think I’m reaping what I’ve sown throughout my career , taking care of my health, etc… Age is just a number when you give yourself to 200 percent and you respect what you do. Before the game I was very, very, very, very nervous, like the first day. I felt cold in my stomach and said what’s going on. Well, what happens is that you’re still going to experience things.”
