Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has stated that he didn’t leave Inter for money and he was disappointed that the club didn’t offer him a new deal.
In an extended version of the interview with Sky, Lukaku spoke about other things involving his exit from the Nerazzurri and he revealed that he was bothered when Antonio Conte left and Achraf Hakimi departed for Paris Saint-Germain.
He stated: “When Conte wrote to me that he wanted to leave, I was disappointed. Then Hakimi also left and there were rumors about the difficulties of the club. But I knew that with Inzaghi, the possibility of winning the Scudetto would remain. My brother has always spoken well to me [about Inzaghi].
“Tactically he is very well prepared and his teams play very well, he and his staff have been real men with me. It bothered me that the executives didn’t even try to get me to renew my contract, in which case I would have stayed at 100%. But I didn’t go away for the money , it’s a challenge to go back to England where I didn’t win.”
In another version of the interview, the Belgian had stated that he would like to return to Inter at some point of his career and even though he isn’t fully happy at Chelsea because of a change in system, he is working hard to make it work.
