Chelsea’s Lukaku in contention to face Spurs after apology

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is expected to make a return to the starting XI ahead of the Carabao Cup game against Spurs after apologizing for his recent comments.

Lukaku revealed he is unhappy with the current situation at Chelsea adding that he has issues with Thomas Tuchel’s style of play. This saw Lukaku dropped from Chelsea’s squad against Liverpool with Tuchel admitting he wasn’t happy with the Belgian’s comments.

However, the pair has had a clear-the-air talk and Tuchel has revealed Lukaku is back in the squad for training ahead of the Spurs encounter.

“First of all, I’m very happy that we took the time needed to look at it and talk calmy about it,” Tuchel said.

“He has apologised and is back in the squad for today’s training [session] later.”

“We have had enough time to clear the air and move on. Most important for me was that it was not intentional. He did not intentionally do this to create this kind of noise.”

Lukaku comments

“Physically I’m doing great. I’m just not very happy with the situation, but that’s normal,” Lukaku said. “I think the boss has decided to play a different formation but I have to stick at it and get on with it professionally.

“I’m not happy with the situation but it’s my job and I mustn’t give up.”

The Blues will host Spurs on Wednesday for the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.
