Chelsea bounced back in style thrashing Southampton 6-0 in a Premier League match staged at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday.
The Blues had suffered back-to-back defeats, losing to Brentford 4-1 before suffering a 3-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Marcos Alonso gave Thomas Tuchel’s men the lead inside eight minutes of play before Mason Mount bagged the second for the visitors. After just 21 minutes, Chelsea were 3-0 up following Timo Werner’s goal and just before halftime, Kai Havertz grabbed the fourth.
Both Werner and Havertz each completed a brace, grabbing a goal in the second half to see Chelsea back to winning ways.
Arsenal 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion
At the Emirates, Arsenal registered yet again poor results, losing 2-1 to visiting Brighton. Mikel Arteta’s men were coming from a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace and their hopes of securing a top-four spot were crashed as they lost at home.
Leandro Trossard opened the scoring for the visitors capitalizing on Arsenal’s slow start to the game. Gabriel Martinelli thought he had levelled terms for Arsenal just before half time only for the goal to be ruled offside.
In the second half, Enock Mwepu converted a fine half-volley to put Brighton in control at the Emirates.
Martin Odegaard pulled one for the Gunners with just a minute to stoppage time, a strike that turned out to be a consolation for the hosts.
