Chelsea in talks to buy stake in Strasbourg after UEFA encouragement

Chelsea are in talks to buy a stake in Strasbourg.

The Guardian says Chelsea are interested in buying a stake in Ligue 1 club Strasbourg, after indications from UEFA that multi-club owning rules may be relaxed.

The body’s president, Aleksander Ceferin, hinted earlier this week that they would ‘not just say no’ to owners looking to buy another club.

It comes after concerns were raised over both parties bidding to buy Manchester United, with Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos group owning Nice and Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani linked with Qatar Sports Investments, which owns French champions PSG.

The change of attitude from UEFA could benefit another Premier League club and Chelsea have intensified discussions with Strasbourg over a full or partial takeover of the French side.

They also claim the club has appointed a new president of business, Tom Glick, to take charge of the process after various French clubs turned down approaches.
