Chelsea defender ‘reaches agreement’ to join Barcelona at the end of the season

Chelsea captain Cezar Azpilicueta has reportedly agreed on a deal to join Barcelona when his current contract with the London club expires.

The Spaniard has enjoyed a hugely successful 10-year career with the Blues, winning all trophies during the time.

The latest is the FIFA Club World Cup, which Chelsea lifted after beating Palmeiras 2-1 on Saturday evening.

According to Sport, Azpilicueta, 32, ‘has had an agreement in principle with Barça to join the club later this year for free when his terms expire in London’.

Azpilicueta has won eight major trophies during his time with the Blues and has a chance of adding another League Cup when Chelsea face Liverpool in the final lateeer this month.

The Blaugrana are also rumoured to be putting a deal in place for another Blues defender, Andres Christensen.

Just like Azpilicueta, the Dane’s contract runs out at the end of the season, meaning he will leave on a free.

Chelsea could have a crisis if they also fail to convince Antonio Rudiger to sign a new deal.

The German international has been in talks with the club to extend his stay, but the two parties are yet to reach an agreement, with his wages the biggest challenge.

Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and PSG are said to be keen on signing the defender, who has become one of the key players for the Blues.
