Carlo Ancelotti slams Milan’s sacking of Paolo Maldini: “Lack of respect”

Current Real Madrid and former Milan boss Carlo Ancelotti has slammed the club’s sacking of Paolo Maldini, who left the club two days ago.

The Rossoneri’s decision to sack Maldini came rather quickly, leaving many Milan fans angry about Gerry Cardinale’s decision. There were disagreements about the budget and the direction of the club’s ongoing project, with Ricky Massara also gone from the club.

Ancelotti recently spoke to Il Giornale about a host of things and one topic he spoke about was Maldini’s axing. He believes that it signifies the ownership’s lack of respect for the Milan traditions and heritage.

“At Madrid, I learned that the history of a club must always be respected. Here, Di Stefano, Amancio, Gento, Puskas are still exclusive values towards which we have reverence. To preserve history at the highest levels, the memory of the past must be protected, what happened with Maldini demonstrates a lack of historical culture, lack of respect for the Milanisti tradition. If it is true that history does not win, it is also true that history teaches us how to win.”

Ancelotti managed Maldini during the ex-defender’s golden years as a star defender in the footballing world and it was under him that the ex-Milan director earned so much success as a player.

But as a director, Maldini took Milan to the Scudetto and helped the club sign the likes of Mike Maignan, Rafael Leao, Sandro Tonali and Fikayo Tomori. These are players that have been vital for the club under Stefano Pioli and could represent the club’s future.
