In this new weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Stefan’s game of the week: Stuttgart vs Koln
Most of the games in the Bundesliga this weekend won’t mean a whole much of anything, but when it comes to Stuttgart v Koln we undoubtedly have a match that both teams will be desperate to win. If the home side can claim all three points, they may be able to claw themselves out of the relegation play-off spot. If Koln win, they could end up in the Europa League next season. In the final weekend of the season, I know which game I’ll be watching.
Manu’s game of the week: Bayer Leverkusen vs Freiburg
My game of the week is going to be Leverkusen vs Freiburg. Not just because I will be at this game. This is a big fixture for Freiburg, Streich’s men will have one last chance to secure a top four finish and reach the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history. It will be a tough task, not only do Freiburg have to win their game against a strong Leverkusen side but also have to hope that Bielefeld do the impossible against Leipzig. Watch out for Moussa “I finally learned how to pass” Diaby. The Frenchman has been sensational this season and could be off this summer for an exuberant €50 million transfer fee.
Stefan’s predictions:
Borussia Dortmund 2-1 Hertha Berlin
Wolfsburg 1-2 Bayern Munich
Bayer Leverkusen 3-2 Freiburg
Union Berlin 1-0 Bochum
Gladbach 3-2 Hoffenheim
Stuttgart 1-1 Koln (G)
Mainz 2-0 Frankfurt
Augsburg 2-1 Greuther Furth
Bielefeld 0-3 RB Leipzig
Manu’s predictions:
Dortmund 3-1 Hertha
Wolfsburg 0-5 Bayern
Leverkusen 2-1 Freiburg
Union 3-0 Bochum
Gladbach 2-2 Hoffenheim
Stuttgart 3-0 Köln
Mainz 2-2 Frankfurt
Augsburg 2-0 Fürth
Bielefeld 1-3 Leipzig
