In this weekly feature, hosts of the Gegenpressing podcast Stefan Bienkowski and Manu Veth face off with their predictions for the forthcoming Bundesliga matchday fixtures. It’s three points for a correct score and one point for a correct result. Who will come out on top at the end of the season?
Manu’s Game of the Week: Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin
My match of the week is Bayern Munich versus Union Berlin and not just because I will be on location to cover it. I am actually intrigued to see new Union Berlin head coach Nenad Bjelica take over Union Berlin. Will we see a new manager bounce right away at the Allianz Arena? I guess the chances of that are quite slim, regardless, Bjelica will use this game as almost a test match to see what he has in this Union squad. Bayern, in the meantime, will want to keep pace with Leverkusen and perhaps look to benefit should Die Werkself slip up against Dortmund.
Manu’s Predictions:
- Darmstadt 2-1 FC Köln
- Bayern Munich 3-1 Union Berlin
- RB Leipzig 3-0 Heidenheim
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 Hoffenheim
- Bochum 1-1 Wolfsburg
- Stuttgart 3-1 Werder Bremen
- Mainz 1-1 Freiburg
- Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Borussia Dortmund
- Augsburg 2-1 Eintracht Frankfurt
Stefan’s Game of the Week: Bayer Leverkusen vs Borussia Dortmund
While Borussia Dortmund did remarkably well to beat AC Milan in the Champions League in midweek, Sunday’s clash at the BayArena offers up a whole different test. Unlike their Italian foes, Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen side are well stocked with all their star players, in-form and have shown a particular talent in wrestling control of clashes with the biggest of teams. If RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich seriously struggled with this Leverkusen side, Dortmund will too. It should be a fascinating clash, but I think the home side should win this one rather comfortably.
Stefan’s Predictions:
- Darmstadt 1-1 FC Köln
- Bayern Munich 2-0 Union Berlin
- RB Leipzig 2-1 Heidenheim
- Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-2 Hoffenheim
- Bochum 1-1 Wolfsburg
- Stuttgart 2-0 Werder Bremen
- Mainz 1-0 Freiburg
- Bayer Leverkusen 3-1 Borussia Dortmund
- Augsburg 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
