Contrary to earlier reports, Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus states he has yet to receive an offer for Breel Embolo as the Switzerland international enters the final year of his contract.
“The players are back now, we will talk to everyone,” Virkus told RP Online. “It’s clear that something can happen but we currently have no enquiries. If there is a desire, you have to talk about it openly and then work through it professionally in order to find a solution that’s good for everyone.”
This comes after Sky Germany reported on Tuesday that Ligue 1 side Monaco had submitted an offer in the low double-digit million range for Embolo, whose contract expires next summer.
With Embolo (25), Marcus Thuram (24) and Alassane Pléa (29) all entering the final year of their contracts, it’s likely that one or two of them could depart this summer if a contract extension isn’t agreed, to avoid the risk of losing them on a free transfer in 2023. However, Borussia Mönchengladbach bosses remain calm on the matter with less than five weeks until the 2022/23 Bundesliga starts.
Embolo scored nine and created four in 29 Bundesliga games last season. It’s also possibly that Thuram could remain at the club with Gladbach having no intention of allowing the French international forward to leave.
