Bernardo Silva addresses future transfer plans

Bernardo Silva has indicated that he would like to go back to Benfica before the conclusion of his career.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a summer move away from the Etihad Stadium, but the Citizens did not receive any suitable offers for the Portugal international, who has since performed for the Premier League leaders this season.

Silva has been undoubtedly the star player for Pep Guardiola’s title-chasing side, netting seven goals in twenty Premier League appearances.

The dynamic midfielder has said that he has no urgent plans to quit the Citizens and is eager to remain at the Premier League’s ‘greatest team in the world.’

Silva, however, has been questioned about his long-term future ambitions and has indicated that he would like to return to Benfica later in his career.

When asked by Portuguese newspaper A Bola if he plans to play or train again for Benfica, Silva said: “Training and presiding doesn’t make sense. Play? No doubt, if they want me there.”

Silva, who is out of contract at the Etihad in June 2025, is a graduate of the Benfica academy but made just three senior appearances for the Eagles before joining Ligue 1 side Monaco in August 2014.
