Benzema closing in on Di Stefano’s Real Madrid record

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema is closing in on club legend Alfredo di Stefano’s goal-scoring record.

The Frenchman has been in scintillating form for the Spanish giants this season and continued with his goal-scoring form with a goal in a 4-1 demolition of Real Sociedad on Saturday.

His strike took him to 306, two behind Stefano, who has 308.

Only Raul Gonzalez (323) and Cristiano Ronaldo (451) have scored more goals for Los Blancos.

Benzema made his debut for the Madrid-based club on August 29, 2009, and has since gone on to win 4 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 LaLiga titles, 2 Copas del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups, for a total of 19 titles.

Madrid will be hoping the striker wears his goal-scoring boots when they host PSG in arguably their biggest game of the season in the round of 16 Champions League return leg match on Wednesday night.

Real are trailing 1-0 from the first leg played a fortnight ago but will be confident of progressing if their home record this season is anything to go by.
