It’s been somewhat of a busy 24 hours for Bayern Munich. Upon securing their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title, the club confirmed that they had parted ways with Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidžić. Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Bayern President Herbert Hainer discussed the decision.

“We discussed things with the directors and the supervisory board,” said Hainer. “We saw some warning signs and as a result decided to make a new start, parting company with Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidžić.”

On the appointment of Jan-Christian Dreesen as Kahn’s replacement, Hainer added: “Jan-Christian Dreesen knows the club inside and out, is valued by all our colleagues and is a factor for stability. We are delighted to bring him on board as CEO. We continue to seek a successor for the Sporting Director position.”

Kahn, who succeeded Karl-Heinz Rummenigge as Bayern Munich CEO in 2021, received a call from Hainer on Friday morning regarding Bayern’s decision to sack the former Bayern goalkeeper. And on Saturday, Kahn didn’t travel to Köln with the squad, a decision that in a tweet, Kahn says he accepted.

Salihamidžić was at the RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday afternoon and celebrated with the squad after their Bundesliga title. It’s no yet clear who will replace the 46-year-old, but Max Eberl is a name that Bayern had shown previous interest in. Eberl is now at RB Leipzig and it’s uncertain as to whether or not he would depart.

As for Kahn’s successor, Bayern Munich appointed Jan-Christian Dreesen who held the previous roles of CFO and Deputy CEO.
