Bayern Munich target RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl

As reported by Bild, Bayern Munich are already searching for a successor to Hasan Salihamidžić with RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl currently the leading candidate.

However, an issue may arise for Bayern in the fact that Eberl has only recently begun his duties in Saxony. After joining Leipzig in January, Eberl’s contract is valid until 2026.

This is, however, not the first time that Eberl has been linked for a move to Bavaria. When Salihamidžić was presented as Bayern sporting director in 2017, Uli Hoeneß spoke about the candidates: “Many names have been floating around. It was effectively two. Those were the only ones we really bothered with. And I think you can feel really good in the circle of Eberl and Lahm.”

Former Bayern sporting director Salihamidžić was dismissed alongside CEO Oliver Khan following the Rekordmeister’s title win away at FC Köln on Saturday. But this was always within the plans at the Säbener Straße as a meeting between Eberl and Bayern had already taken place before the game in Cologne.

Nevertheless, Leipzig will undoubtedly be difficult to negotiate with. After Markus Krösche left Die Roten Bullen in 2021 for Eintracht Frankfurt, it took Leipzig over a year to replace him with Eberl, who is currently undergoing a rebuild project with the Saxony-based side.
