Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt (22) is picking up pace. According to Florian Plettenberg, the Bundesliga club are preparing to make their opening offer for the Dutch central-defender.
This comes after Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić met his Juventus counterpart Federico Cherubini in Milan on Wednesday. The meeting reportedly lasted around three hours, and it’s now known to Juventus that De Ligt would like to join the Bundesliga champions this summer.
Per Plettenberg, the opening discussions have been positive and respectful whilst Bayern’s first offer could be presented in the next few days. Salihamidžić has convinced De Ligt of the Bayern project and whilst the negotiations with the Italian side won’t be easy, a transfer this summer is certainly possible.
This also comes after Premier League side showed interest in the Dutchman. But per Christian Falk, representatives of the 22-year-old have halted negotiations with other interested parties given his desire to join Bayern. And whilst CEO Oliver Kahn is happy with the quality in central-defence, he stated to Kicker that they can improve should someone with leadership and presence become available.
