Barcelona reach agreement with Bayern Munich for Robert Lewandowski

Gianluca Di Marzio reports tonight that Barcelona have reached a total agreement with Bayern Munich for the transfer of Robert Lewandowski.

The 33-year-old will not take part in Bayern’s team presentation at the Allianz Arena on Saturday. This is also confirmed by Florian Plettenberg and Fabrizio Romano, who further add that Lewandowski will sign a three-year contract plus an option with Barcelona, who will pay Bayern a reported €50m including bonuses.

It’s been known for some time that Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich for Barcelona as he entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Bundesliga champions. This transfer saga is finally nearing the end as Lewandowski gets his wish.

After joining Bayern Munich from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in 2014, Lewandowski has scored 344 goals and created 72 across 375 games in all competitions.

Although a considerable loss, Bayern Munich will reinvest the money gained from the sale of Lewandowski for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt (22) and RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer (25) – just tonight Leipzig rejected an opening offer from Bayern for the Austrian.

Bayern Munich are also expected to announce the contract extension of Serge Gnabry (27) beyond 2023 – The Athletic reported on Saturday that an agreement had been reached for an extension.
