Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong says he’s committed to the club.
The 24-year-old is one of the names often linked with a sale in order to raise funds, but he has no plans to leave the club anytime soon.
“I’m very happy at Barcelona,” De Jong told the Guardian. “I’ve wanted to play here since I was young, so being here is a dream come true.
“I would have liked to win more trophies in these two years, and I expected more in that sense. But I’m happy here and I want to stay for a lot of years.”
Being a midfielder, De Jong is pleased to be working under current coach Xavi Hernandez at the club, even though he worked with compatriot Ronald Koeman previously.
“Xavi was a midfielder so that helps a lot,” De Jong commented.
“Sometimes I go to his office and he shows me videos of my games and gives his opinion, showing me how he thinks I can improve.
“A lot of things are the same [compared to Koeman’s time]. In the end, Barcelona always play a way that doesn’t depend too much on the coach, but more the style.
“Of course, though, each coach has his own approach and way of incorporating smaller details.”
