Barcelona coach Xavi has held talks with Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
Barcelona are following the Chelsea case closely, with Roman Abramovich being punished and potential implications for the future of Azpilicueta.
The player is out of contract with the Blues in the summer and he might leave. He has a clause in his deal about reaching a certain number of games – which he hasn’t yet – and that can only be activated if both club and player agree.
Xavi has special interest in Azpilicueta as he could end up becoming a Barcelona player. He played with Azpi in the Spain team in the 2013 Confederations Cup and 2014 World Cup.
Xavi has spoken to him many times to explain his interest in bringing him in Camp Nou. He values Azpi’s versatility and professionalism and thinks he can be a model for youngsters to follow.
Azpi will wait and see how things go, says Sport. He does not want to force his way out, but is interested in the plan Xavi is offering.
