Juventus have already confirmed the departure of Alvaro Morata, but the latest from Italy understands that he could return to Serie A soon.
A report in La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the extension in Alvaro Morata’s contract at Atletico Madrid until June 2024 could result in the Spaniard returning to Juventus this summer.
With Morata, who is also a transfer target for Barcelona, putting pen to a renewal with the Spanish club, it is understood that he will be available for a much more reasonable price this time.
The 29-year-old striker joined the Old Lady on loan in the summer of 2020. Having played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, the forward amassed some notable numbers and convinced Juventus to extend his stay for another term.
Although the 2021/22 season was not as fruitful for the forward as the previous one, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri rates the former Real Madrid striker pretty highly and would love to welcome him in Turin for the next season.
The Italian club had an option to buy worth €35 million in the player’s contract. But having already spent €20 million on two loan spells, Juve were unwilling to trigger the respective option, eventually letting him leave this summer.
With his contract now extended, Morata could leave Atleti for even around €25 million, as suggested in the report. A contract extension means that Atleti could further amortize the investment they had to make while signing the forward from Chelsea in 2020.
The Bianconeri sporting director Federico Cherubini knows it and is reportedly considering getting the player back on a permanent deal this summer. Now, it will depend on negotiations between the two parties.
