Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has shrugged off criticism of his team’s style of play.
Atletico meet Manchester City tomorrow in the second-leg of their Champions League quarterfinal needing to overturn a 1-0 deficit.
Simeone has been hammered across Europe by ex-player pundits for his tactics.
But the Argentine says: “I always say the same thing, I have been coaching since 2005, I have never been contemptuous of a colleague of mine. I put myself in the shoes of the coaches I compete with and understand that there are different ways to express what one feels as a coach.
“When one is contemptuous, I do not share it. The other opinions, the press, players who don’t play… I say what my father used to say: ‘the fish dies through the mouth’.
“I will always respect my colleagues, always.”
Simeone added: “We always have the same respect for all rivals. I saw Liverpool-City. I thought it was a fantastic match. We saw a defensive position quite marked by the attack of the opposing team. They are two teams that play very well and the thought I had before the game does not change me.”
