Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to return to Manchester United’s squad for Saturday’s Premier League showdown at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portugal international was ruled out of last weekend’s match against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium due to a hip flexor injury and was unable to practice with his teammates earlier this week.
But, interim head coach Ralf Rangnick stated during Friday’s pre-match news conference that the 37-year-old returned to training on Thursday and should be available to face Spurs this weekend.
Rangnick told reporters:
It doesn’t make sense to look back at what was happening the last six days. Important is that he and Edi [Edinson Cavani] are back in training. I would have thought he is available for tomorrow. We will see with which formation/line-up.
Ronaldo has 15 goals in 30 games for the 20-time English champions this season after his summer return from Juventus.
However, the Portuguese has scored just once in the Premier League since the end of December, and his future has been the subject of much conjecture in recent weeks.
Ronaldo spurned a slew of chances in his previous outing against Watford in late February, and he will be hoping to reclaim a starting berth against Antonio Conte’s side in the pivotal match.
